The rest of the hols

Well, since my last post a lot has happened. I went snorkelling on Sunday AM being taken out on a traditional dhow. It was grand. We went out to the Coral reef first. It was low tide so we were able to walk on the reef. Then we went snorkelling. Lots and lots of beautiful fish.

By the time I got back I was feeling quite warm and despite wearing a T-Shirt and believing I had enough sun tan lotion on I got quite a nasty bout of Sunburn. Still, I'll learn next time.

A few days of relaxing and then a trip into Mombasa. We went first to the Akamba wood carving co-operative. Everything is hand made and sold at the shop, with other workers collecting wood etc. as a team. In all they employ around 7000 people.

Next to the city and the fruit market and spice market. Very hectic but very interesting. Then on to the old town and fort Jesus. Some great history there. After this a meal on the very famous Tamerind Dhow and then on to Haller Park (nature trail).

On Friday we took a 2 day trip into the Shimba hills to the Mwaluganje elephant sanctuary. We saw plenty of elephants, wart hogs, impala, monkeys and bush babies.

I flew back on Sunday arriving home Monday AM. Back to work tomorrow. :o( Time just seems to fly. I will certainly go back to Kenya. It's a magical place and very humbling at the same time.
